I’m thrilled to share that this summer, every weekend public transport will be free across Victoria! And it’s all to celebrate the opening of the Metro Tunnel.

From early December until February 1, you’ll be able to jump on any tram, bus, Melbourne train or regional service without needing a Myki. No tapping on or off, just hop on and enjoy the ride.

 

This is the biggest free transport initiative in our state’s history. It’s a way of saying thank you to every Victorian for their patience while the Metro Tunnel project was being built. Thousands of workers have worked tirelessly to deliver the Metro Tunnel, and now it’s time to enjoy the benefits.

For families in Narre Warren North and across our region, this is a fantastic opportunity to explore Melbourne and beyond, without the cost of travel. Whether it’s a day out in the city, visiting loved ones, or just enjoying the convenience of more frequent services.

The Summer Start kicks off with the opening of the Metro Tunnel in early December, bringing 240 new services each week. 

 

Then, on February 1, we’ll see the Big Switch. A new state-wide timetable, with 1,000 new services and major improvements to our busiest train lines.

Some regional services will still require a reservation, but these will be free too.

This is a huge moment for Victoria, and I’m proud to see our community benefit from the investment in better, faster, and more accessible public transport.
