The Premier of Victoria, Hon. Jacinta Allan, recently made a surprise visit to Gleneagles Secondary College, fulfilling a promise made earlier in the year. Six Year 12 students had met the Premier at an African Gala Dinner, where an invitation to visit the school was extended and to the students' surprise, the visit took place during their Year 12 assembly.
The Premier spoke to the senior cohort, offering words of encouragement and support as they prepare for their final exams. A few students had the opportunity to ask questions, leading to a thoughtful exchange about leadership, education, and post-school pathways.
Following the assembly, students gathered for a few photos, including the now-essential 0.5 selfies, which prompted some laughter and explanation from students about the trend. The visit then continued with a walkthrough of the school’s facilities, offering a chance to see some of the learning spaces in action.
One stop included a Food Technology class, where students were completing a practical assessment, baking sponge cakes while also being formally assessed. Despite the unexpected visitor, students remained focused and proud to show their skills in action.
The Premier also visited an English classroom mid-discussion, where Year 12 students were analysing Stolen by Jane Harrison. The brief time spent in the lesson offered a glimpse into the rich discussions taking place in the lead-up to final assessments.
To finish the visit, time was spent learning about Gleneagles’ new breakfast club initiative, a program supporting students with access to a healthy start to the day. Staff shared insights into how the initiative is already having a positive impact across the school community.
Thanks so much for your visit, Premier.
